Post Election Paragraph

For one of my classes at my new school I had to wright a paragraph answering these questions:

Please create a new post and journal for 10-15 minutes on the election.  You can free write or answer the following questions (Just be sure to address the last question):

What are you feeling right now about the election results?

What questions do you have about the election results or process?

Try to empathize with the other side of the political spectrum- what issues turned out to be important to that side?

How can we as a country unite together after a very tough, divisive election season?

Here was my response:

The day after the election was very hard for many people. Some spent the day mourning, some celebrating, and some not effected at all. The candidates had very nice speeches complementing each other, and saying nice try, maybe next election cycle, and good game. My initial feelings were; this is not right for the people, and the country. Finally after a flurry of emotions I subsided into acceptance, but I never wanted to give up believing that there was a better choice of this country, a better move we could make, or to go to the extreme, exit the country all together like Britain did. A question that I have, that I have an answer to but don’t believe is the best for the American people is; how come someone wins the popular vote but does not win the electoral college vote? I think there should be some consideration of that when it comes down to the electoral college. I do see what the opposing party sees in their candidate but I believe there was a better choice if we stopped constantly screaming, fighting and bickering. We can unite together as a country around this election by asking what the opposing side has to say and believes. We should also stop and listen for once in our lives. We should stop coming up with roasts, memes and insults that could anger people to the point that it insights violence. We should have peace rallies, promoting peace to unite our divided country, and educate the uneducated. We should follow the phrase, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free.”
