Nine Day Field Trip Day- 3

On the third day, our class ventured to Jamestown and Colombia, California. First stop – Jamestown.

The first thing we did to kick off the day’s  journey was panning for gold! Panning is actually much more difficult then you would think.

Some of the kids in my class actually found some real gold!

Also in our search for gold we found gems, lot and lots of gems! After that amusing experience we went and explored and shopped at Jamestown. Jamestown is  an old mining settlement created in the gold rush of California in 1848-1849. While meandering the class found a bowling alley and tried some old-fashioned bowling.

After having a jolly good time bowling, our teacher called, “Gather around kids,” and she had us try various candies that were like the ones that they had in 1848! Some of the candies were delicious and a few of the candies were so disgusting that we ran at mach speed to the nearest trash can to spit it out.

After our sugar high died down the class went to Railtown 1897 Historic Park.

The train No. 3 is so special because it has been in many movies that premiered in Hollywood.

We rode a train that was a model after the original trains that carried settlers out into the mining fields.

By that time our stomachs were growling and saying feed me! So our teacher had arranged for an awesome buffet dinner with Mark Twain, the author! He told us about life in the time he was writing and how he created his name and entertained us with his story of The Frog of Calaveras County.

What an an an astonishing way to end our day at dinner with the Mark Twain.
