To start the second day of an exciting nine day field trip the class had a filling breakfast and lessons.
Then to kick off the second day of adventure we drove to Sequoia National Park where we entered the Crystal Cave. After disinfecting our shoes to prevent the bats from getting White Nose Disease, we walked down a trail to the cave. While inside, we observed the different forms of erosion that occurred in the caves. As we toured through we saw many exquisite pieces of natural art.
Here are some examples:

We also saw many more amazing pieces of natural art that I can’t fit into this post. We also experienced cave black. Cave black is hard to explain but I will give it my best shot. It is as though you are blind and can’t see anything but blackness.
After spelunking for most of the day we continued our trek through Sequoia National Park to see the General Sherman, the living tree with the largest volume.
After our long day we settled down at our hotel for the night and went swimming like we do most nights!
That is how my class ended our second day of this great nine day field trip.
