Exploring the Perot Science Museum

In my last post Cool Things to do in Dallas/Ft. Worth I mentioned the Perot Science Museum. There is a wide variety of  learning opportunities. Starting outside, there is a musical playground where you can play out of the ordinary instruments made out of whopping big pipes!

The museum was hosting a special exhibit all about Sherlock Holmes. The goal was to solve a mystery, go on a scavenger hunt and solve puzzles like Sherlock. I ended up solving the mystery completely correct. At the beginning, I felt slightly confused, but after a while I got into Sherlock’s shoes and solved the mystery like Sherlock would!

In another area of the museum, I created my own evolved creature and I learned how animals adapt to different environments. I made some live in acrid environments and some in much less acrid environments. Here is a picture of one of the creatures I made:

The top floor was all about birds, how they use there beaks and the way they use their feathers for camouflage. There was a bird simulation room where I became a bird and I flew through a forest. This area included a “create you own bird” station. After exploring the different areas of beaks, wings, talons, feathers, colors and body styles, I was able to create my own bird design!

In the main lobby, it was raining! (These are H2O molecules). They danced up and down.

The museum held a massive room all about rocks. There is some fascinating crystal and geode formations in the display cases. There was even one bigger than me.

If you are interested in learning about fracking, they had a catchy song with a cartoon and a ride all about fracking!

If you haven’t been in an earthquake before, they had an earthquake table where you could test your limits of how well you could withstand an earthquake!

There was a section devoted to dinosaurs, both predators and prey. The room explored their attacking and defense mechanisms. There was even a game you could play with friend where one of you could be the predator and one could be the prey with different abilities.

And just when you think there couldn’t be anymore, I discovered a room devoted to robots and coding. There was a wall that mimicked your movements on wooden chips. You could compete with other kids using robots to move blocks.

This museum had so much to do there was barely enough time to cover this and we stayed ALL day! I really enjoyed all of this museum and if you go there too, I hope you have a great time!
